So far, these have been my worst days in terms of recording photos. But, I’m not going to beat myself up over it. I think I deserve a good ole pat on the back for making it this far – and it’s my first year! I’m kind of nervous about setting up the album but fingers crossed it all goes smoothly.
Sorry for the photo heavy post, but here is our Friday and Saturday.
Imagine my surprise when I woke up at 7:20 and L was still in bed? I shook him violently with, “BABE!!! IT’S SO LATE ALREADY!!” and he replied with a disgruntled, “I’m not going to work today.” !!!! Apparently he came home at 2 AM last night after consoling a distraught co-worker about relationship problems and figured there was nothing urgent he had to do at work and anticipated feeling terrible, so he just decided not to go. What a goober.
Despite his decision to sleep in, I got up and out of bed, trudged down to the kitchen and looked at my planner for my plans of the day. Plenty to do and the early bird gets the worm so I decided to start my day with plenty plans of being super productive (Spoiler alert: Nothing got done).
First things first, left the house at 8:40 to go make Alfie’s appointment at the vet. They have this silly policy that you have to physically go there, on the day, to get your patient card in, in order to have your pet seen. Ridiculous. So I usually go alone, and ask them to call us when it’s almost our turn. The wait is usually 2 hours or so. This day, they said it would come quickly because not too many people were waiting.
I want to remember my mom’s dislike for gardening, except for her little planter on the front steps of our porch. She bought these little flowers months ago, but hasn’t planted them yet -_-
Back to the vet again around 10:00 am. Good news: Alfie’s stabilizing – his numbers are going down and the vet told us we don’t need to come back again til next week AND we could take him home right away! Yay, Alfie!
Mom went off to lunch with her friend afterwards, so L and I decided to go check out this new restaurant in our neighborhood. It was a pasta restaurant and quite delicious (and affordable). This spot was a different restaurant months ago – it was delicious but overpriced, which is probably why it got bought out.
L ordered a Crab Tomato Cream Pasta and I got the daily special: Anchovy Whitebait (I’m not sure if that’s what it really is…. I had to Google Translate that, hahaha) with Japanese plum (ume) and Japanese basil (shiso). So delicious! They used fresh spaghetti, and they were both absolutely delicious.
After coming home from lunch, L played with Alfie for a little bit but it was obvious Alfie was still not 100% because he kept getting exhausted so quickly. Usually, he can’t get enough of his donut toy but not today 🙁 Poor little pup.
The rest of the afternoon was slept being lazy and just laying around together. Told you; got nothing done.
Mom calls my grandma every night at around 8 PM. She’s so good about it, too. Usually my grandma hangs up on her (lol) but she does it regardless. Much better daughter than me 😉
When I’m on dinner duty, dinner is simple and (usually) delicious. Friday night was a baked chicken kind of night. This recipe is from one of mom’s first cookbooks – so it’s pretty cool that I can still use the recipe. It’s so simple, and it’s L’s favorite. Win win!
Somebody is well enough to smell something cooking. Don’t mind my maxi dress tied in a knot……….
And voila – dinner is served!! Baked chicken, simple salad with coconut oil dressing and garlic butter mushrooms. And wine. Always wine.
My favorite picture. Every time we have dinner together, we hold hands and say a prayer for what we’re grateful for (and sometimes to ask for things…usually better health when someone is sick ha!). I love this and I want to treasure this. It’s something we’ve done forever and my dad always said, “This is my favorite moment of the day.” I agree with him. Wish he could be here.
The rest of the night included doodling in the planner and late night TV. I passed out in the middle of typing this up – which is why it’s combined with Saturday. Woops!
SATURDAY
My morning starts with good smells. One of my favorite morning routines is choosing a scent for the day. Today I went with this no-brand-name smell I picked up recently. I mostly liked the design – good thing it also smells amazing (even though it doesn’t make any sense and Mahalo is spelled wrong….oh, Japan).
Saturday mornings are for being lazy and reading (!!!!!). L never reads. This deserved to be captured.
We decided to try a new place for lunch and mom mentioned her friend told her about this burger place in Komazawa called Brooklyn Ribbon Fries. We decided to check it out. I loved everything about this and own’t include all the photos because I want to write a separate blog post for anyone who’s interested in checking it out!
But, I will include a photo of the burger. Because it was mmm so good.
Post-lunch family selfie! Love this photo, love these people. My heart is full.
Around 3:30 PM we left the house for one of my English language students’ ballet recital. She’s only in first grade but I know how hard she’s been practicing for this recital so when her mom told me about it, I immediately asked if we could come watch. Luckily, tickets were free and so were we 🙂
Unfortunately, we weren’t allowed to take photos of the performance but I’m so glad we went. She was so amazing and my heart was filled with pride!! I almost started crying when she came on stage. She was so, so adorable.
There were 3 parts to the performance, but she wasn’t in the second portion so L and I decided to get some coffee and a snack. We didn’t realize it was going to be so long!! Starbucks for us #sorrynotsorry
While we waited for the second portion to end, we took the opportunity to take some photos outside the recital hall. This was the first time I wore this dress and I loved it. It fit perfectly AND was comfy! Woohoo!
We arrived home pretty late (for having left at 3PM), so we had to rush home because Alfie hadn’t been fed nor walked yet. Mom was so sweet. Whipped up breakfast for dinner for us! Our favorite.
After we ate, we passed out again. I’m sensing a theme….and I don’t know if it’s a good one.
