Saturday night was quite the doozy (do people ever say that in real life? I think it’s kind of hilarious). It was Fashion’s Night Out, which is a global shopping event hosted in various fashion capitals all over the world. You can read more about it here. Tokyo’s event was hosted in Omotesando/Aoyama/Harajuku area and it was an event that my friend Rio and I started going to years ago when it first started. Basically, it’s an event that encourages people to shop more and they do this by hosting stamp rallies, events, drinks and food. Naturally, I’m all over any event that serves free drinks.
This year, unfortunately Rio couldn’t make it because she was leaving that night on a flight to Spain/Ibiza (fancy, fancy), so I recruited L and my best friend, Hisaya, to come with me. I wasn’t sure what to expect with two boys but it ended up being a blast. I decided I wanted to share some photos from last night as this is definitely going to have its own spread in my album as well as possibly 12×12 page *gasp*.
We started the night by walking to the station – our neighborhood was hosting a summer festival (which we were bummed was on the same night as FNO), so we wandered through the crowd and grabbed some food before heading to Omotesando to meet Hisaya.
The first store we wandered into was Paul Stuart. They had a live band playing, as well as Japanese sake. Bingo!
This photo cracks me up. Petit Bateau had “photo booths” where they snapped a picture of you wearing their raincoats, and if you posted it on instagram or twitter using their official hashtag, you could print a copy for free in their store. The boys were reluctant, but I bribed them with the free drinks they were serving next door.
We stopped by Shu Uemura and I had full intentions of buying their Christmas set, which goes on sale to the public in November, but they had sold out by the time we got there. Bummer. Lots of stores have special early releases during this event for certain products or clothing, but they go so quickly you have to know where to go. I didn’t do my research this year so we missed out on a lot.
Omotesando Hills is where they host the opening and closing ceremony. We made a pitstop there towards the end of our night, where there is a DJ playing at the basement and lots of booths with drinks and exclusive things available for purchase.
Evian had a collaboration with Alexander Wang. I have no idea why, but I chuckled. Designer water, whowudathunk.
Omotesando Hills were giving out these free photo props – you know I had to grab them. I think they’ll fit perfectly in a 12×12 sleeve. Oversized memorabilia, yes please! Hisaya looks like he’s crying because at this point he’s sick of me forcing him to pose for photos.
L clearly doesn’t mind posing for photos….hahahaha I love this photo so much. Such a dork.
Enjoying our red (er…black) carpet moment. Those shoes? Yeah, I have 6 blisters today.
Fierce.
And here’s a close-up for good measure. We ended the night by taking a cab into Shibuya to eat and drink some more at TGI Friday’s before arriving home exhausted, and in pain, at 1:30 AM. I was quite impressed when I woke up and realized I had changed into my pajamas and washed my face before passing out. Go Tina!
I wasn’t planning on blogging about this. If I had, I would have taken more/better photos with my actual camera but here it is anyway. If you’re planning a trip to Tokyo in September next year, this would be a fun event to check out. If anything just for the free drinks and people watching – so many interesting people out and about. This is such a unique city in so many ways and the people are definitely quirky. Hope you enjoyed this recap of my rare night out with my favorite boys.
