September 19 – 23 was what Japan calls, Silver Week. It was a 3-day stretch of holidays that fell right after the weekend. It’s a rare occurrence that Silver Week falls during this time – you can read more about that here. Anyway, we decided this year to take a short trip somewhere in Japan during the first few days of the holiday to commemorate this rare occurrence! I searched high and low on Air BnB for a place close to the ocean but of course, I was too late and literally everything was booked during the few days we were planning on doing something. Finally, mom suggested we check out the mountains. Sure enough, we found a house in Narisawa – a neighborhood close to Mt. Fuji, known to be close to the famous Five Fuji Lakes.
I decided to do a 4×4 album for this short trip because I just felt a project life spread wasn’t enough for the amount of photos we took and stories I wanted to record. I am almost regretting a 4×4…maybe a 6×8 album would have been better but oh well. What’s done is done and so far I’m enjoying the process. 4×4’s are so easy in that you feel zero pressure to really do any embellishing. I’m focusing on the photos and stories and if I get to embellishing, go me! Anyway, onwards with the album!
Let me clarify and put this disclaimer: Mt. Fuji did NOT look like this when we went. There was no snow on top so it just looked like a boring mountain. I cut this photo out of a pamphlet we received while we were there so I cheated, but whatever.
I cut out and saved this map from the same pamphlet I used for the photo on the cover. I might color or highlight the lakes we actually visited while we were there, later.
I did some stamping and journaling on this plain white shipping tag. I fully admit I totally snagged this idea from my favorite travel scrapbooker, Geralyn Sy. One look at her blog and you will see how amazing she is at whipping up these beautiful travel albums.
We booked a house that is usually used as a studio for photo shoots, but is rented out on Air BnB when they aren’t booked for that. The photos were beautiful and it claimed it was big enough for 8 people. The best part was that they allowed dogs – so we were able to take Alfie with us! We quickly booked it for 2 nights, 3 days and were on our way come September 19! The trip itself was wild. I’ve never seen such giant spiders in my whole entire life – I slept 2 hours the first night due to paranoia. I’m definitely a city girl.
The post-its you see there are the way I plan all my albums once I have the photos on my computer. This helps me edit them to size and makes things easier for me. Does anybody else do that? Anyway, hope you guys enjoyed Day 1 in my album! I’m simultaneously working on my WITL album, and catching up on PL. Exhausting, but so much fun. I will share more as I progress. Let me know if y’all have any questions regarding the trip or the album! xx

I love this! This is such a great idea for trips! I feel like I would always be putting off making them though.

Also, what app do you use to add the text to your pictures?

On my phone, I usually use the Little Moments app, but for this album all the text is added using PSE!
I definitely still have like 3 travel albums to do – I just figured I should tackle the short one first 😉
